MUHUHU

Brachylaena spp.

Brachylaena spp. of the family Asteraceae including at least Brachylaena huillensis (syn. Brachylaena hutchinsii) (the species most often mentioned), Brachylaena merana and Brachylaena ramiflora.

my samples:
NOTE: these pics were all taken in very bright incandescent lighting ("soft white" at 2700K)
colors will vary under other lighting conditions

both sides of a sample plank of muhuhu / Brachylaena hutchinsii --- HUGE enlargements are present. This sample was loaned to me by David Clark whom I thank for this and other contributions to the site. This is obviously a laminated sample, but the two piece are close to identical so I don't consider that a serious flaw for the sample. Brachylaena hutchinsii is now take as being just a synonym of Brachylaena huillensis

end grain and end grain closeup of the piece directly above

plank listed as Brachylaena hutchinsii --- correspondent Steve Earlis tells me the color on this is just ridiculous and that certainly sounds correct to me
