BISHOP WOOD

Bischofia spp.

Bischofia spp. of the family Phyllanthaceae. Includes at least Bischofia javanica and Bischofia trifoliata

my samples:

sample plank and end grain sold to me as bishop wood / Bischofia javanica --- The vendor of this piece had t as Bischafia abanica but this botanican name is probably a pretty total mis-spelling of Bischofia javanica, since (1) I can't find "abanica" in any reference work and (2) it comes from the IWCS and a misspelling would be in keeping with the slovenliness of most of the samples that I received from them. NOTE: after several years in my sample boxes, this piece was taken out for the end grain update you see down below and I note that it had twisted fairly severely. Since I'm pretty sure it was dry when I got it, I assume this piece was reaction wood.

web pics:

plank listed as bishop wood / Bischofia javanica

plank and closeup. These pics were pulled from an ebay auction and sent to me by Dave Cummings, whom I thank. The two pics below are also from the same plank and I cannot comment on the accuracy of any of the colors on any of these pics other than to say that if they're all of the same plank, clearly they cannot all be correct. If I had to bet, I'd bet that they are BOTH just way off base with one having too much red/pink and the other having too much violet.

two more pics of the same plank
