Although primarily Pterocarpus cambodianus of the family Fabaceae (syn. Leguminosae) the legume, pea, or bean family, a few other species in the genus Pterocarpus are sometimes sold as maidou; these include Pterocarpus dalbergiodes, Pterocarpus indicus (narra), Pterocarpus pedatus, and Pterocarpus macrocarpus, some of which are also sold as padauk.
Closly related to amboyna (narra) burl and looks very similar, so similar in fact that I think that some of what is shown below is actually amboyna, although I could be wrong about that. Also called Vietnam padauk and thnong.
